FILM ANALYSIS (LIGHT MY FIRE)

Country: USA
At the end of the movie, I felt bad seeing Clerk’s father beating him and allowing his girlfriend’s father slap him too. Although the story was short, I was engaged from the beginning of the story and will summarize the story as a story conveying a message of how parents should instill discipline when their children involve in a wrong act.
The central message of the film talks about how parent’s should discipline their children when they involve themselves in bad acts. While watching the film, I experienced a surprise when Clerk’s father told the father of Clerk’s girlfriend to slap Clerk on his face.
The Characters in my opinion were developed and acted very real by delivering strong performances. Clerk’s father stood out positively for me whiles her mother stood out negatively for me. The relationship between Clerk’s father and the and his girlfriend’s father fascinated me because in the movie, Clerk’s father pleaded with the girl’s father and asked him if he will stay for supper.
Though the movie was a bit old, the cinematography to me was effective because I observed some scenes that felt intentional with different camera angles with a standout shots in the scene were the girl’s father drove his car on the street. The use of colour and lighting was not too effective in the scenes but most scenes has right framing.
I enjoyed the soundtrack and sound effects at the background because it created a strong mood and showed how angry the girl’s father was. I was impressed by the use of the sound and effects to communicate emotions.
The film met my expectation seeing Clerk’s father not defending his son but rather disciplining his soon in front of his girlfriend’s father. The movie made me feel emotional in the scene where the father of Clerk’s girlfriend was speaking to her and she didn’t respond. I feel the girl was going through pains. The message I gathered in the short film is about discipline.
