Movie Analysis (Still Wylde | A Short Film about The Ups and Downs of Pregnancy)
Written and Directed by Ingrid Hass
STORY AND THEME
The film made me feel emotional seeing how life was tough for Gertie Wylde and her boyfriend Sam and the challenges they faced relating to pregnancy. I was engaged at the beginning of the movie when Gertie Wylde requested for five different pregnancy test kits at the supermarket. I will summarize the story as the challenging Pregnancy situation in the life of two young couples. The central message of the story talks about the complexity of life in challenging moments and how people deal with challenges around pregnancy and love life. In the movie, I experience and unexpected surprise when Gertie Wylde bought alcohol at the supermarket. I asked myself why she will drink alcohol even when facing such a challenge.
CHARACTER AND PERFORMANCE
The characters were very developed and played their roles very well in terms of how they expressed their emotions towards the situation. Both Gertie Wylde and Sam stood out positively for me and they both had compelling relationship that grabs attention and interest.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
The cinematography was on point. The use of close-up shots to show the characters expressions stood out for me while the effective use of lighting and framing made the film very lively to watch and communicated very well.
SOUND AND MUSIC
The strong soundtrack at the beginning of the song set the pace of the film and evokes interest. The soundtrack used in the second scene shows how emotional Gartie Wylde was concerning her pregnancy. The sound effects used were relating to the dialogue in the film. I was not much impressed with the film score used for the film. I feel a better soundtrack would have been better.
OVERALL IMPACT
My expectation was not really met because I was thinking at the end of the movie I will see Gartie Wylde and Sam carrying their own child but that didn't happen. The weakness of the film was about the film score, I find it not to be the best for the film. The film evoked sad emotion at the scene where Gartie Wylde was crying bitterly in the washroom. I will recommend this film to any young lady or gentleman going through tough times in life particularly and also couples facing challenges in pregnancy or childbirth.
